Position Overview:
Well Drilling Supervisor to oversee and manage drilling operations at well sites. The Well Drilling Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling programs, leading a team of rig crew members, and ensuring that all activities comply with company procedures, safety standards, and regulations. This position requires strong leadership skills, in-depth technical knowledge of drilling operations, and a commitment to maintaining a high level of safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drilling Operations Management:
- Supervise daily drilling activities, ensuring that operations are conducted according to the well plan and within budget.
- Monitor and evaluate drilling progress and performance, making real-time decisions to adjust plans as necessary to ensure the success of drilling operations.
- Oversee the operation of the drilling rig, ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and safely.
- Ensure that the well is drilled to the desired depth, angle, and parameters according to the project’s specifications.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Enforce and lead the implementation of safety procedures and ensure that all rig crew members adhere to safety protocols.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and safety meetings to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, minimizing the environmental impact of drilling operations.
- Lead emergency response drills, ensuring the team is prepared for any emergency situations.
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead, motivate, and manage the drilling crew, ensuring all team members are trained, equipped, and able to perform their duties effectively.
- Supervise the performance of rig crew members, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Ensure that personnel are properly certified and trained in relevant safety and operational procedures.
- Foster teamwork and effective communication among the drilling team to ensure smooth operations.
- Equipment and Rig Maintenance:
- Ensure that all drilling equipment is properly maintained, regularly inspected, and in good working condition to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to schedule and perform routine checks and repairs on drilling equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any mechanical or technical issues with drilling systems and equipment.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of drilling operations, including well progress, equipment performance, safety incidents, and other relevant data.
- Provide daily and weekly reports to the Drilling Superintendent or Operations Manager, including progress updates and any issues encountered during operations.
- Contribute to post-operation evaluations and lessons learned reports to improve future drilling activities.
- Performance Optimization and Cost Control:
- Monitor drilling performance and identify opportunities for improvement, including strategies to reduce non-productive time (NPT), improve operational efficiency, and minimize costs.
- Ensure that drilling operations are completed within the allocated budget and timeline.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives and efficient drilling practices to enhance productivity and operational effectiveness.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with other departments, such as engineering, logistics, and procurement, to ensure that all resources (materials, equipment, and personnel) are available as required.
- Liaise with service companies, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in the drilling process to ensure smooth coordination and execution of the drilling plan.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, geoscience, or a related field is preferred; however, candidates with significant relevant experience may also be considered.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years of experience as a Drilling Supervisor or in a similar supervisory role.
- Proven expertise in well drilling, rig operations, well control, and safety procedures.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong technical expertise in well drilling processes, drilling equipment, and rig operations.
- In-depth understanding of well design, wellbore stability, and well control principles.
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team of rig personnel.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities to address operational and technical challenges on-site.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate coordination and collaboration among teams.
- High level of organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Physical and Other Requirements:
- Ability to work in challenging, often remote, outdoor environments with physically demanding conditions.
- Willingness to work long shifts, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts as part of a rotational schedule.
- Must be physically fit and able to perform the demanding duties associated with drilling operations in a challenging environment.
